The Solar Pump

Now the dam was repaired, the womens garden needed water down as a daily chore with buckets so as to allieve the backbreaking work we installed a solar panel with a solar pump attached when the sun is out it pumps this water is pumped up the hill to a storage tank. The water is then gravity fed through a filter and into a line that goes into the womens garden to irrigate through drip irrigation.

class="bodytext">The Kayayoma community (650 families) situated in the north-west of Zimbabwe in the Guruve area approached Gomango through Jim Latham of Ecoed to ask for assistance with their dam as it was in danger of being eroded away from a broken spillway. Gomango was able to seek and secure funds from CIDA and were able to recreate the spillway and raise the dam wall thereby increasing the holding capacity and securing the communities water supply. The water is used to supply the local vegetable gardens in the winter months (rainfalls between October and March), provide water for the livestock and for household use, it is transported by buckets to the various destinations as a daily chore for the women and children in the community.
